Purchanse and Registration of Vehicle

New registration (for new cars)

Documents

  • ID card(for deputies: a copy of your ID card, a procuration, and deputy’s ID card)
  • Car manufacturing certification
  • Temporary driving permission and temporary license plate
  • Liability insurance participation certificate (copy available)
  • Tax invoice

Car registration of transfer (for used cars)

Documentation and checklist

  • Purchaser’s ID card
    (if absent: a copy of purchaser’s ID card,a procuration, and deputy’s ID card)
  • Seller’s ID card
    (if absent : ‘certificate of personal seal impression to sell a car’, ‘transfer certificate’ with seller’s seal)
  • Liability insurance participation certificate
  • check the mileage of the car
  • need to change license plate if local one

Registration of change

Documents and checklist

  • ID card
  • Abstract of resident registration
    (existing Foreign Registration Number should be shown)
  • should apply registration of change within 30 days after getting Korean citizenship
    If not, you will be charged up to KRW 300,000 as penalty

confirmIf a foreigner reports his/her residence place changed to the specific authority and address of the car is automatically changed as well, it is no need of separate application.

Car cancellation registration (junk)

  • Documents
    • car registration certificate
    • a copy of ID card
    • procuration
  • How to apply

    If you give required documents to the junkyard, it can apply cancellation registration.
    Or, you can get a certificate of take over from the junkyard and apply.
